In response to the 2004 Building Act, the WCC implemented an “Earthquake Prone” Building Policy where WCC engineers carry out a check that gives a rough idea of the probable performance of a building in an earthquake. Any building found to have less than 33% seismic compliance is issued with a notice to fix.

The council carries out Initial Evaluations which are deliberately conservative and building owners have the opportunity to respond to this and provide additional information.

DTCE Ltd. is able to carry out more detailed assessment of a building's seismic performance, sometimes resulting in a building then being omitted from the Earthquake Prone register.

At DTCE we can provide an expert opinion relating to the structural performance of a building during an earthquake.
We can also provide structural solutions to improve the buildings performance. - refer Seismic Strengthening
