This is a cutting edge mixed use site close to State Highway One and the train lines at Paekakariki on the site of the former tavern.

The design called for a tavern, hotel and residential townhouses all on the same site with vital areas elevated to protect from flooding such that devastated the town in both 2003 and 2004.

We worked alongside the architectural designer to discretely conceal the structure in places and ensure that exposed structure enhanced the building’s aesthetics.

DTCE was at the forefront of implementing the new seismic loadings standard for this building and in doing so ensured that the building would be a model of best practice for years to come.
