This house was to be constructed on a steeply sloped site with close houses on three sides.

The clients desired a 3 or 4 storey house. The height control lines and difficulty of supporting the front edge of a 4 storey house so high above the ground necessitated submerging the house 2 storeys into the ground.

Careful detailing of cuts and construction procedure was required in order to ensure no slips affected the three neighbours.
